The Biblical Challenge of Missions
Biblical Principles in Missions
Principle # 1: The supreme task of the church is World
Evangelism. Matthew 28:19-20. The Commission is an order, not an option
for the church!
Principle # 2: The gospel has an urgent message for all men.
John 3:16, Romans 3:23, Acts 14:7 and 17:30 and 1 John 2: 1-2.
These verses make it clear that all mankind is lost in sin and cannot be saved apart
from the acceptance of the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Principle #3: World Evangelism flows out of the local church.
Acts 1:8 Jesus clearly states that evangelism flows in an ever widening
circle from our local community, to our country, to those of other races, to
those in other lands, reaching around the world.
Principle #4: Missions is the task of the whole church. The Great
Commission was given to the church in Matthew 28: 19-29, repeated again in Mark
16 to the disciples and is seen throughout the book of Acts as the ministry of
the whole church. Missions should never be relegated wholly to an
auxiliary or committee of the church.
Principle #5: Missionaries should report to the sending churches.
Paul always reported back to the leadership and to the church what was
happening.
Principle #6: The key to mission education in a church rests with the
pastor. An evangelistic mission-minded pastor will have an evangelistic,
mission-minded church.
Biblical Methods in Missions
Biblical Method #1: The gospel requires
personal presentation.
Biblical Method #2: National workers must be adequately
trained in the Scriptures.
Biblical Method #3: The gospel in written form is needed.
Biblical Method #4: Missions require management oversight.
Biblical Method #5: The Holy Spirit and His power are needed in
the work of missions.
